Official Rules for the Turnitin All-Star Awards

 

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

 
  1. Awards Description

The Turnitin All-Star Awards is an annual awards program for educators who have demonstrated excellence and success in effectively using or promoting the use of Turnitin to support student learning. This year, we will also have a student category to recognize individuals, a group of students, or a club in their promotion of academic integrity. The following awards include:

 

Academic Integrity All-Star Award. This award will be based on how an educator reduces unoriginal writing, promotes academic integrity and teaches proper citation and attribution through the use of Turnitin.

 

Grading & Feedback All-Star Award. This award will be based on how an educator engages students, provides rich feedback on student work, and promotes student success through the use of Turnitin.

 

MVP All-Star Award. This award will be based on how an educator is actively promoting the use of Turnitin in their institution or district through: training, professional development, support, sharing ideas and best practices, and otherwise championing the use of Turnitin across the curriculum.

 

Original Writers Student All-Star. The Original Writers Student All-Star Award is a new award to help inform schools of and recognize students who have done outstanding things at their institutions. This award will be presented to a student or group that has demonstrated commitment for promoting academic integrity in their school or personal life.

 

The rules below detail entry eligibility, how to enter, nomination rules, and publicity guidelines.

 
  1. Sponsor. The Sponsor of this Promotion is iParadigms, LLC, 1111 Broadway, 3rd Floor, Oakland, CA 94607 (“Sponsor”). All questions regarding this Promotion should be directed by email to allstars@turnitin.com.

 
  1. Eligibility. The Turnitin All-Star Awards (the “Promotion”) is open only to entrants who are at least 18 years of age (“of Majority Age”)  at the time of entry. If you are under eighteen (18) years of age or have not reached the age of majority in your jurisdiction of residence (together, "Not of Majority Age"), you may not participate in this Promotion except with the supervision and permission of a parent or legal guardian. If you are Not of Majority Age, you must have a parent or legal guardian review and agree to these terms. All entrants must be residents of the United States of America.

 

Entries for the educator award are encouraged to be active or recent Turnitin users; commercial enterprises and business entities are not eligible. Directors, officers, employees, contractors, and agents of iParadigms, LLC, and its subsidiaries, affiliates, resellers, or advertising or promotional agencies and members of their immediate families (spouse, parents, siblings and children) are not eligible.

 

Entries for the student award are open to students of any institution, open to both individuals or groups of students, and open to students who haven’t used Turnitin before.

 

Individuals involved in the administration and handling of the All-Star Awards are not eligible to participate. Subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Promotion. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all the requirements.

 
  1. Timing. The Promotion shall begin on or about February 3, 2015 and the (“Promotion Period”) on February 28, 2015.  Winners will be announced on or around March 19th.

 
  1. How to Enter.  To enter a nomination for the Turnitin All-Star Awards for Educators, go to http://go.turnitin.com/all-star-2015 and complete an online entry and its required fields. You must provide your information (the nominator) including your name, email address, school, and title, as well as the information for the nominee, which includes their name, email, school, title, city, state, and number. For self-nominees, please note that both the nominator and nominee information will be the same.

 

To enter a nomination for the Turnitin All-Star Awards for Students, go to  http://go.turnitin.com/all-star-2015-students and complete an online entry and its required fields. You must provide your information (the nominator) including your name, email address, school, and title, as well as the information for the nominee, which includes their name, email, school, title, city, state, and number. For self-nominees, please note that both the nominator and nominee information will be the same. By completing the survey, you are certifying that you know the nominee personally and that he/she/they are over 14 years of age. Nominees under 18 and over 14 years of age will be required to submit a parental approval form as finalists.

 

Once your online entry is complete, click the “Submit” button to submit an entry. Entry via this method constitutes one (1) entry into the Promotion. Multiple submissions by a nominator or multiple submissions for a nomination will not be a deciding factor in the Promotion.
 

  1. Nomination Rules

 

Multimedia Formats: Each nomination may contain the following files: .doc, .jpeg,.png, .ppt, .pptx, .mp3, .mp4.  There will be a 5MB limit on file sizes. Multiple file submissions are possible through zip files. If Turnitin cannot open it because the file is too large or damaged, we will disqualify the file from the nomination.

 

Multimedia Rules. By submitting multimedia files electronically, the sponsor assumes you are stating that you are the owner and copyright owner of the work submitted. If any one of the multimedia files contains identifiable people, you are stating that you have permission from all the models. If multimedia files contains student work or proprietary information, you are stating that you have obtained permission to use it for this Promotion.

 
  1. Privacy, Use of Information and Publicity. Any personal information received by Sponsor in connection with this Promotion will be used solely in accordance with Sponsor’s privacy pledge, which can be found at http://turnitin.com/en_us/about-us/privacy-center/privacy-pledge.

 

By submitting a nomination, you grant that the Sponsor owns the right to use the multimedia files for non-commercial purposes without giving compensation, royalties or fees for its usage, where such usage may include, but is not limited to, announcements, educator features, and publicity following the All-Star Awards. All self-nominations and winners agree to allow Sponsor to use his or her name, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information, and biographical information for publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation where permitted by law. You understand and hereby consent that your data will be transferred from the country in which you are located to iParadigms, LLC in the United States of America and stored in the United States of America.

 
  1. Judging. The potential winner will be determined by a judging panel comprised of former Turnitin All-Star Awards winners and the Turnitin team. The judging panel will vet each nomination through a specific rubric. Nominations will be judged on how the instructor has used Turnitin, how it has contributed to student success and other creative use cases of Turnitin as pertains to the category in question. Student nominations will be judged by the creativity and efficacy of their efforts championing the cause of academic integrity.

 
  1. Prizes. One (1) winner will receive a USD $1000 cash prize for each All-Star Award category and by secondary educators and higher education educators and alternate awards will be given for the honorable mention(s). One (1) student winner will receive a $1000 scholarship to his or her college of choice and alternate awards will be given for the honorable mention(s).

 
  1. Promotion. Sponsor is the sole judging organization whose decisions as to the operation of the Promotion and the selection of the potential winner are final and binding in all matters related to the Promotion.

 
  1. Verification of Potential Winners. To win a prize, the potential winner must continuously comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules. The potential winner will be notified by email or telephone call within approximately five (5) business days following selection of each winner. In order to claim a prize, the potential winner will be required to sign and return to Sponsor an Affidavit of Eligibility/ Liability & Publicity Release (“Affirmation”) within forty-eight (48) hours of the date notice or attempted notice is sent. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to sign and return the Affirmation within the specified time period, or is determined to be ineligible, the potential winner is disqualified and forfeits the prize.

 

In the event that a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, Sponsor may award the applicable prize to an alternate winner determined as the subsequent eligible entry.

 
  1. Release. By receipt of any Promotion prize, winner agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, advertising/promotion agencies and each such company’s officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Promotion or receipt or use or misuse of any prize or participation in any Promotion-related activity and for any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise delivery.

 
  1. Conditions of Participation. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, stolen, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, misdirected, technically corrupted or garbled entries, which will be disqualified, or for problems of any kind whether mechanical, human or electronic. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Promotion, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Promotion, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right to award the prize at random from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with Sponsor’s web site, Turnitin, the entry process or the operation of the Promotion or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in a disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Promotion may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

 
  1. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability. THE RELEASED PARTIES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR: (1) ANY INCORRECT OR INACCURATE INFORMATION, WHETHER CAUSED BY ENTRANTS, PRINTING ERRORS OR BY ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT OR PROGRAMMING ASSOCIATED WITH OR UTILIZED IN THE PROMOTION; (2) TECHNICAL FAILURES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO MALFUNCTIONS, INTERRUPTIONS, TRAFFIC CONGESTION OR DISCONNECTIONS IN PHONE OR INTERNET LINES OR NETWORK HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE; (3) UNAUTHORIZED HUMAN INTERVENTION IN ANY PART OF THE ENTRY PROCESS OR THE PROMOTION; (4) TECHNICAL OR HUMAN ERROR WHICH MAY OCCUR IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE PROMOTION OR THE PROCESSING OF ENTRIES; OR (5) ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY WHICH MAY BE CAUSED, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, FROM ENTRANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE PROMOTION OR RECEIPT OR USE OR MISUSE OF ANY PRIZE INCLUDING ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE TO ENTRANT'S OR ANY OTHER PERSON'S COMPUTER RELATED TO OR RESULTING FROM PARTICIPATION OR DOWNLOADING ANY MATERIALS IN THE PROMOTION.

  2. Governing Law. These Official Rules and this Promotion are governed by and controlled by the laws of the State of California, applicable to contracts made and performed therein without reference to the applicable choice of law provisions. All actions, proceedings or litigation relating hereto will be instituted and prosecuted solely within the State of California, Alameda County. The parties consent to the jurisdiction of the state courts of California and the federal courts located with such state and county with respect to any action, dispute or other matter pertaining to or arising out of this Promotion. This Promotion is subject to all applicable laws. Void where prohibited.
