Literacy is Fundamental: Leveraging Critical Reading to Improve Student Writing

How has the immediacy, ready access to, and wealth of information online impacted student literacy? And, how do we work to engage students in approaching information—and reading—in a way that helps to enhance their writing skills?

In this webcast, we explore strategies for engaging students in reading critically towards improving their research skills and ultimately their ability to think and write critically.

Presenters

Lynn Lampert is the Chair of Research, Instruction and Outreach Services at California State University Northridge. She has specialized in the area of information literacy instruction for over 15 years and co-edited "Proven Strategies for Building an Information Literacy Program" (Neal Schuman Publishers, 2007). Lynn’s articles include: "Building Campus Wide Information Literacy Programs" (with Catherine Haras) presented at The LOEX conference in 2007; “Mind the Gap: Academic Library Outreach and EOP” (with Coleen Meyer-Martin) which appeared in Reference Services Review in 2013. She is active in ACRL and CARL.


Jason Chu is Education Director for Turnitin. His focus is on working to build resources for educators, and his personal passion is to find better ways to enhance student achievement.  He will be moderating this webcast.
