Caught in the Middle: Common Core in the Middle School

Much of the debate surrounding the Common Core State Standards has focused on the impact these standards will have on the high school and college classroom. However, as the standards seek to define college and career readiness in high school curriculum, we will see significant pressure in the middle school classroom to level up.

In this session we discuss how the Common Core impacts middle school curriculum and assessment.

Presenters

Renee Swensen

Renee Swensen has taught writing for 16 years. As professor of English at Saddleback College, she collaborated with K-12 teachers developing curriculum to bridge the gap between high school and college in reading, writing and grammar. Renee also worked with the English Professional Learning Council to develop writing rubrics aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to better prepare secondary students for college-level course work. She currently teaches at Eastern Kentucky University


Jason Chu

Jason Chu is Education Director for Turnitin. His focus is on working to build resources for educators, and his personal passion is to find better ways to enhance student achievement.  He will be moderating this webinar.
