Data-Driven Decisions: Using Rubrics for Programmatic Assessments

Rubric-based grading is often recommended for providing consist and actionable feedback while conveying discrete expectations to students. But the advantages of grading with rubrics can have a measurable impact beyond the immediate assignment.

This session provides real-world examples of expanding the use of rubric data to generate course-level assessments and to make program-level changes. Course-level examples examine development of critical thinking and comparison between online and face-to-face sections. Program-level example shows how rubric assessments allow a department to make actionable decisions.

Presenters

Dr. Elizabeth Jones is an Assistant Professor of Leadership and Management at Notre Dame of Maryland University. Dr. Jones manages online course redesign of general education courses. She is a Faculty Fellow in the Complete College America grant at the University System of Maryland and mentored three Maryland community colleges as they redesign developmental mathematics courses. Her emphasis on teaching excellence is demonstrated by her many conference presentations on pedagogy. Dr. Jones received her both master's degree and her doctorate in Organization and Management from Capella University.

Jason Chu is Education Director for Turnitin. His focus is on working to build resources for educators, and his personal passion is to find better ways to enhance student achievement. He will be moderating this webinar.
