Rubrics have been the standard in assessment for several years now and are widely used by educators in both secondary and higher education. In this webcast, we explore whether rubrics really work to improve student success.

Heidi Andrade

Heidi Andrade is an Associate Professor of educational psychology and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Education, University at Albany—State University of New York. Her research and teaching focuses on the relationships between learning and assessment, with emphases on student self-assessment and self-regulated learning. She has written numerous articles, including an award-winning article on rubrics for Educational Leadership (1997). She has edited or co-edited several books and journals on assessment including The Handbook of Formative Assessment (2010), the SAGE Handbook of Research on Classroom Assessment (2013), and special issues of Theory Into Practice (2009) and Applied Measurement in Education (in press).


Renee

Renee Swensen is a Professor of English at Saddleback College and has been teaching writing for 15 years. She collaborates with K-12 teachers developing curriculum to bridge the gap between high school and college in reading, writing and grammar. Renee creates the professional development webinars for Turnitin, emphasizing how instructors can innovatively teach students about plagiarism.
