Narcissism and Extrinsic Values: Understanding Student Trends that Impact Plagiarism and Cheating
3rd Annual Plagiarism Education Week
Narcissism, an inflated sense of self, is linked to academic cheating and plagiarism. Narcissism has increased along with related traits such as thinking one is above average, entitlement, inflated expectations, and extrinsic values such as focusing on the outcome of education rather than the process.
Join us for a session with Jean Twenge, author of "The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement," who will share her research on narcissism and discuss how to understand current students' mindsets as a way to help guide them toward academic integrity.
Jean M. Twenge, Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University, is the author of more than 100 scientific publications and the books The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement (2009) and Generation Me: Why Today’s Young Americans Are More Confident, Assertive, Entitled — and More Miserable Than Ever Before (2nd edition 2014).
