Technology is neither necessary nor sufficient for good writing, as demonstrated by Homerian epics (tech not necessary) and bad blogs (tech not sufficient). Yet in the 21st century, digital technology is integral to the writing process. How can these tools be applied to improve writing skills?

Based on wide-ranging research on technology in education, this talk highlights the critical importance of strong pedagogy and provides tips for better technology use in the classroom.

Kentaro Toyama is W.K. Kellogg Associate Professor of Community Information at the University of Michigan School of Information, a fellow of the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT, and author of Geek Heresy: Rescuing Social Change from the Cult of Technology.


Jason Chu is Education Director for Turnitin. His focus is on working to build resources for educators, and his personal passion is to find better ways to enhance student achievement.  He will be moderating this webcast.
