Phoenix Union High School District: Improving Feedback to a Diverse Student Population

With 27,000 students, 94% of whom are minorities, Phoenix Union High School District is a hallmark of urban school district diversity. All of the district's schools also receive Title I funds. Turnitin was first brought into the district in 2007 as a way to address the originality of student's work. Starting in 2013, the district transitioned to a district-wide license, with all of the schools having access. The district-wide adoption of Turnitin has been a tremendous success, with the district most recently reporting more than 29,000 student papers submitted to Turnitin between September and December 2013 alone.

Please join us for a conversation with Ann Murray, who spearheads Turnitin's adoption and growth in Phoenix Union. Ann will share insights into how Turnitin can be best used to support the evaluation of student work across a diverse population and also proven strategies for driving Turnitin implementation across a large, urban district (comprised of 16 campuses).

Presenters

Ann Murray is in her 19th year with Phoenix Union High School District, a large, urban high school district with 16 schools and 27,000 students in Arizona. Within the district, Ann has served as a classroom teacher, department chair, and Instructional Specialist at Central High School where she was School Improvement Co-chair. Ann is now in her 4th year as Language Arts Content Specialist for the district. She is also an Arizona Governor’s Master Teacher and a Master Teacher Mentor Coach. Ann holds a bachelors degree from the University of Texas and a masters degree from Northern Arizona University.

Jason Chu is Education Director for Turnitin. His focus is on working to build resources for educators, and his personal passion is to find better ways to enhance student achievement. He will be moderating this webinar.
