HE Climbing the Ladder

In the year 2020 seventy-five percent of jobs will require at least an associates degree. Schools are under pressure to increase graduation rates to prepare for the 21st century workplace.  Educators are searching for new approaches to foster critical thinking, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills to help students succeed in a knowledge economy. 

This 30-minute webcast discusses how Turnitin helps educators teach the necessary skills for student success and how students can ensure their own success.  Topics include how online access, formative assessment, frequent feedback, and online writing technologies can help students climb the success ladder.

Presenters

Dr. Todd A. Burnett, has served as president of Saddleback College since 2008. Previously, he was vice chancellor for the California Community Colleges—the largest higher education system in the world. He is a strong proponent of youth leadership education, actively supporting Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, Inc. (HOBY), a national non-profit organization that seeks out, recognizes, and develops the leadership potential of high school students. Dr. Burnett has received numerous resolutions from elected officials at all levels of government in recognition of his distinguished public service and commitment to higher education.


Dr. Kevin O’Conner, Dean of Liberal Arts at Saddleback College, has taught English and served as an administrator in California’s higher education segment, including four-year, public and private, and community colleges. His primary interest is student success, having worked in and advocated for academic assistance centers. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the Student Success Task Force Recommendations for California’s community colleges. He has a Ph.D. in English from USC.
